I have a background in business management since more than 30 years and have been working as Global Sustainability Manager and Managing Director within the IKEA Group. Most of the years with direct responsibility for bottom line performance.

By this I have got wide experiences of the different business dimensions and know how to best integrate sustainability securing responsible business performance, long term profitability and a strong brand reputation. The integration process has to involve all important stakeholders and I have managed many seminars on management level using different techniques e.g. Future Search.
Today I know by experience that sustainability as an integrated part in all dimensions of the business makes sure that the issues are taken care of in a professional way. It also generates cost savings, increased productivity and thereby increased profitability.

During 22 years was working within the IKEA Group and the last 8 years as Sustainability Manager for the whole company group. During the 90-ies I worked another 6 years as environmental manager at IKEA of Sweden AB. That is the company that has the global responsibility for product development, purchase and distribution within the IKEA Group.
The last 12 years I was also a member of the IKEA Strategic Purchasing Committee.
I have been a member of the Retail Board at IKEA in Switzerland as well as Spain/Portugal and Chairman of the IKEA founded Sow a Seed Foundation. This has secured me to stay tight connected to all business dimensions within the IKEA Group.
During 2007-2010 I was a non executive director of BSR and since 2011 I am a non executive director of Mestro. I have also been a member of the Swedbank council for Ethical investments.
During the years I have been invited as speaker at several international Sustainability conferences all over the world. I was ranked as no 13 of the world most influential people in Business Ethics 2007 by the US magazine Ethisphere.
Before joining IKEA I have been working with production and quality management in companies producing pharmaceutics, sterile medical devices and components to the automotive industry, during more than 10 years.
In May 2010 I started my own company, Bergmark Sustainability AB, offering support within the field of Strategic Management in different dimensions with main focus on Sustainability & Leadership.
